Japan Patent Office Selects
TimeLogic Equipment
TimeLogic Corporation announced today that it
had been awarded a contract to supply DeCypher Computational Genomic
Server equipment to the Japanese Patent Office.
The powerful Computational Genomic Server equipment
selected by the JPO, after an extensive competitive evaluation,
will greatly increase the JPO's processing capability for genomic
sequence patents.
The field of genomics is growing rapidly, as
companies investigate the genetic sequences of plants and animals,
including humans, looking for the next product breakthrough. In
order for companies to protect their work, they file patents to
claim novel discoveries. Recently, the volume of patents for genetic
sequences have reached unprecedented proportions.
Sensitive and unique search algorithms, accelerated
to supercomputing speeds by an array of parallel processors in the
TimeLogic equipment, provide the means to rapidly search through
exponentially expanding DNA and protein sequence databases to determine
if claimed sequences are truly novel.
In selecting DeCypher, the JPO has taken
a leadership position, greatly expanding their computing resources.
The DeCypher equipment will allow higher productivity and faster
processing of genetic patent applications. It is common for a patent
application to have a sequence claim that requires several hours
on mainframe computers to match against all of the world's genetic
sequence databases. In fact many applications contain hundreds or
thousands of such claims. Processing requiring hours on a mainframe
can be processed in seconds on the DeCypher Computational Genomic
Server by TimeLogic.
