CodeQuest

The Value of CodeQuest

CodeQuest includes a wide range of components, from its accelerated desktop workstation to bioinformatics workflow software. To determine overall value for your institution, consider factors such as acquistion cost, performance, per-user licensing costs, reliability, operational costs, setup and upgrade times, plus longevity.

Acquisition Cost & Performance

CodeQuest includes:

  • A Hewlett Packard workstation with 2 dual-core CPUs, 1 terabyte of storage, 4 GB RAM and a 19" monitor (>$5600).
  • Complete suite of accelerated algorithms
  • DeCypher Engine accelerator card (1 or 2)
  • Web interface
  • Command line interface
  • PipeWorks workflow software (Windows Models). Other commercial workflow packages cost $4000 per user per year—just to run workflows. PipeWorks users can build, share, and execute workflows.

CodeQuest is priced similarly to a 10 node cluster, yet delivers up to 1000 CPU cores of sequence comparison performance. We invite you to submit performance tests on your data to validate the performance.

Cool technologyCost-Saving Technology
Considering the IT support costs required by a cluster, CodeQuest can pay for itself within 1-2 years!

  • A 16-node cluster (128 CPU cores) requires $5000 to power, and another $5000 to cool—every year!

  • A cluster often requires upgrades to UPS power conditioners, HVAC cooling and rack hardware

  • Cluster management software, halon-equipped server room space and IT personnel add another $10,000+ per year

CodeQuest requires only a standard wall outlet and needs no special cooling, since the DeCypher Engine accelerator(s) are performing most of the computation. Each accelerator draws only 30W of additional power, so the internal airflow of the xw8600 workstation is enough to keep them cool.

User licensing
CodeQuest can be shared across your entire lab, and includes support for 5 PipeWorks users (however the PipeWorks client software may be installed on any PC in your lab).

CodeQuest is more affordable and environmentally-friendly than clusters dedicated to sequence comparison and bioinformatics tasks. Contact the TimeLogic team today to see how we can accelerate your genome annotation capabilities with CodeQuest.
